A street or square named after him, or maybe even a place. This is the proposal put forward during the meeting in memory of Gino Guglielmi thirty years after his death in 1993. Many in Sanremo still remember him: a multifaceted figure, pioneer of local TV, secretary of the Famija Sanremasca, journalist and local historian. The Official Lions Club of Italy, in collaboration with the Famija Sanremasca, wanted to bring back a character who marked a period of Matuzian history. The conference, which took place yesterday in the theater of the Workers’ Federation in via Corradi, was attended by a large and attentive audience who at times participated with unpublished anecdotes. Present at the meeting were her daughters Antonella and Laura, the latter taking an active part in the presentation by reading an excerpt from her latest book ‘Italo Calvino and Sanremo, in search of a vanished city’ where Laura describes the conflicted relationship between her and the father comparing it to that between Italo and his father Mario Calvino.

Many contributions from those who had known him in depth: Mino Casabianca spoke about the experience with Guglielmi when he became part of the Famija Sanremasca, and then intervened: Anna Maria Ferrari, daughter of Pipin Ferrari, first president of the Matuziana association, Enzo Benza and Roberto Pecchinino respectively treasurer and member of the Famija board, and the custodian of the city’s photographic memory Alfredo Moreschi. The actor Gianni Modena then read some poems by Guglielmi and the soprano Angelica Cirillo a piece that retraced an evocative episode that saw him as a protagonist during the last world war for which he was awarded the gold medal by the Municipality of Sanremo, in occasion of the patron saint of 13 October 1975.

Promoter of the initiative Domenico Prevosto, from an idea by Salvatore Marino, respectively president and secretary of the Lions Club. Three mayoral candidates also took part in the event, moderated by the tireless entertainer Freddy Colt: Fulvio Fellegara, Alessandro Mager, Gianni Rolando.
