two doctors sentenced to one year for failure to perform official duties – TraniLive.it

The sentence imposed on the two doctors who ended up on trial as part of the investigation into the death of Antonia Abbatangelo is one year’s imprisonment each for failure to perform official duties. The news appeared this morning on the pages of the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno. «The sentence, pronounced with an abbreviated procedure, was issued against Rita Capraro and Paolo Saracino, at the time of the events respectively doctor on duty at the Trani emergency room and colleague of the medical guard. The verdict aligned with the requests of the public prosecutor, who had requested acquittal for both of them on the charge of manslaughter (in the sentence the acquittal was pronounced “for not having committed the crime”, with a doubtful formula). Compensation has also been ordered for the family members, who have been made civil parties with the lawyer Giorgia Di Savino” we read in the pages of the newspaper in the article by journalist Linda Cappello.

Antonia Abbatangelo arrived in critical condition on 12 November 2020 at the first aid station in Trani, from which however she was referred to the emergency medical service and from there to the emergency room. The woman returned to her home without having received a diagnosis. According to the investigators, the 2020 operational protocol, drawn up by the 118 health emergency system of the Bari and Bat provinces, was violated, according to which the cyanosis that the 41-year-old presented should have classified her case as a code red.
