CUNEO – The twentieth edition of the Paris-Nice cycle touring will stop in Cuneo

The arrival of the stage coming from Vars is on Thursday 20 June. The following day the grand finale towards the French Riviera

The Paris-Nice cycling tour (Paris – Nice Cyclo 2024) will stop in Cuneo on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st June. The amateur race, which includes ten stages, is organized by the AAOC WISSOUS (Airport Association Olympique Cycliste WISSOUS) under the aegis of the FF Vélo (French Cycle Tourism Federation). The city of Cuneo will host the arrival of the stage coming from Vars and the departure of the last effort towards Nice. This is an important event from the point of view of promoting the territory, which strengthens the link with the capital of the Alpi Marittime department, twinned since 1964.

The passage of the cyclosportive randonné is also further proof of the role of Cuneo Alpine City 2024 (recognition delivered by the association of the same name last May 17) and of its strategic position, surrounded by mountains, but close to the sea. The Paris-Nice Cyclo will not be the only two-wheel event that will be hosted in the city this year: in addition to the traditional Granfondo Fausto Coppi, in July Cuneo will host a GRAALPS “base camp”, starting from Mandelieu, on the French Riviera, and arrive in Crans Montana, Switzerland. In the month of September, from the 16th to the 22nd, it will then be the turn of the Cuneo Bike Festival, which will attract many two-wheel enthusiasts.

Returning to Paris-Nice, Cuneo will host the arrival of the ninth stage (160 kilometres), which will start on Thursday 20 June at 7.30 from Vars. The caravan of over 150 cyclists will head up the Queyras valley to face the legendary Agnello hill and descend towards the Po valley passing through the Varaita valley (lunch break in Sampeyre) and the Rossana hill where the stele dedicated to the ‘unforgettable Marco Pantani. An athlete, the Pirate, who the French will remember for his victory in the Tour de France in 1998. An unmatched feat for an Italian until 2014, when Vincenzo Nibali managed to triumph in the Grande Boucle. The arrival in Cuneo is expected from 4.30 pm in Piazza Galimberti. A representative of the municipal administration will welcome the cyclists.

The event will restart on Friday 21 June at 7am for the tenth and final stage from Cuneo to Nice (169 kilometres). The participants will head towards Vinadio, then turn towards the Lombarda hill, descend into the Vallée de la Tinée and Vésubie, and reach the Baie des Anges, where the event will end.
