The nautical center of the Mediterranean Games now has an official headquarters. The agreement has been signed which provides for the transfer of the former torpedo boat dock from the Navy to the Municipality. The cost to transform the area for the required sporting functions is around 14 million euros.

Great satisfaction from Mayor Rinaldo Melucci for the very quick conclusion of an extremely complex preliminary investigation procedure. One of the facilities for the 2026 Games will be built in the area.

Yesterday morning the mayor and Southern Maritime commander, division admiral Vincenzo Montanaro, together with the commander of the Harbor Office, vessel captain Rosario Meo, signed the report for the temporary transfer of a portion of the area of the former torpedo boat dock to the availability of the municipal administration .

The center will be built right next to the Mar Piccolo, allowing athletes involved in rowing and sailing competitions not only to train, but also to be able to moor their boats in the same area. «This agreement confirms the great bond that our city has with the Navy, which I thank for once again proving to be fully available and attentive to the needs of the territory. What we are experiencing today demonstrates once again that teamwork has been rewarded.”

During the ceremony it was highlighted how the transition of the former torpedo boat dock into the availability of the Municipality represents a “small miracle” from an administrative point of view, especially if one considers that the preliminary procedure, which involved the transition from military to maritime state property and, finally, to the civic body, it was completed in the space of just one month and twenty days, confirming the great work carried out in a synergistic manner by all the offices involved in due time and within the necessary times.

«For this aspect too – added the mayor – we must be grateful to Admiral Montanaro and Commander Meo for having worked, as always, in the interests of the city in a context which, far from simple, required maximum efficiency. The time that separates us from the start of the Mediterranean Games is not very long, we need to speed up to allow all the interventions to be started and completed as dictated by the timetable drawn up by the commissioner. Clearly, since the funds were approved by the Ministry of Economy, priority has been given to sports facility works.”
