Young musicians grow up at the Pergolesi conservatory in Fermo, with the possibility, during the Pergolesi Jazz Festival, of meeting and interacting with guests of the highest level. The event, which consists of seminars and concerts, will be held from tomorrow, Thursday 2nd, to Saturday 4th May.
Full immersion
It is the second edition, that of the Pergolesi Jazz Festival 2024, a full musical immersion organized and desired by the jazz department of the Fermo conservatory. «A great musical party for the kids – comments the creator, Maestro Mauro De Federicis – days in which they will be involved by very important guests. This year we have given a more international direction to the festival, compared to last year.” Scrolling through the program, names like David Linx and Bruno Tommaso come to mind. The first, a Belgian singer among the most important of contemporary jazz, will propose a speech, in two parts, entitled “The contemporary voice”. At 9am tomorrow, in the Conservatory auditorium, the first part of the Linx seminar will begin, dedicated mainly to singers, but open to all. Linx, who always maintains an original style which over the years has allowed him to collaborate with the major international exponents, will continue his masterclass on Friday 3 May, again at 9. Here some students from the jazz classes will perform pieces proposed by the master, they will listen to him and will be able treasure his teachings. Seminar also on Saturday 4 May, third and last day of the festival, with Bruno Tommaso, entitled “Masking in jazz”, to create a chamber jazz program. «The opportunity for young musicians – observes Maestro Marco Postacchini – to get in touch with people of this caliber is really important. They will be able to listen, learn and ultimately be directed by the composers in the performance of some pieces.” And at the end of both seminars, to follow, in the queue, concerts will probably be held by the students, directed by the masters: with Linx on Friday 3rd at 4.30 pm, with Tommaso on Saturday 4th at around 5 pm, in this case with the live performance of the pieces studied. The seminars, free for conservatory students, are also open to outsiders, such as listeners, with a fee of 30 euros for the entire festival. Masterclasses and concerts in the conservatory, but also performances outside, with the music of the Pergolesi Jazz Ensemble, made up of students of the conservatory, who will encounter the art of “Fermo in Acquarello”.
The concert
In fact, at 6.30pm on Friday 3 May, in the archaeological museum of Fermo, next to the exhibition spaces dedicated to watercolours, there will be a concert by the ensemble. «Experiencing – comments the director of the conservatory Piero Di Egidio – doing research and learning from the greats is a very precious opportunity for our students. Maestro De Federicis has done a great job to build such high level programming in our institution.” The president of the musical institution, Igor Giostra, also agrees with the director: «Music lovers and students will appreciate the level of the educational offer and the professionalism of the guests». Also present at the presentation of the program was the municipal councilor for culture, Micol Lanzidei, who emphasized the centrality of the conservatory and beyond.
