**Borsellino misdirection: policemen’s defense, ‘aberrant to support Scarantino’s reliability’**

Caltanissetta, 29 April. (Adnkronos) – “Supporting the reliability of Vincenzo Scarantino’s toenail is something aberrant. It is incredible how many times have the lawyers shouted vengeance over that type of proceeding.” This was said by the lawyer Giuseppe Seminara, defender of two of the three policemen in the dock, Michele Ribaudo and Fabrizio Mattei, during the defense speech of the appeal trial on the misdirection of the Via D’Amelio massacre. There are three policemen accused, accused of aggravated slander for having fabricated false repentants, inducing them to lie, to mislead the investigations into the Via D’Amelio massacre. They are Mario Bo, Michele Ribaudo and Fabrizio Mattei. At the end of the indictment, the general prosecutor of Caltanissetta, Fabio D’Anna asked for 11 years and 10 months in prison for Mario Bo and 9 years and 6 months each for Fabrizio Mattei and Michele Ribaudo. The same penalties requested in the first degree trial. The Caltanissetta court, in first instance, on 12 July 2022, declared the charges against Bo and Mattei to be barred, while Ribaudo was acquitted. Lawyer Seminara began his defense speech by quoting the victims of the Borsellino massacre: “30 years after the massacre in Via D’Amelio, this defense deems it necessary to renew its condolences for the victims of that terrible massacre and for their families”.
