PESCARA. “Let’s build together a Europe of peace, work and social justice.” It is the slogan chosen by CGIL, CISL and UIL to celebrate May Day. Various initiatives planned in Abruzzo which integrate with those organized at a national level, namely the classic Concertone in Rome and the event which this year will be held in Monfalcone, in the province of Gorizia, and which will see the participation of the general secretaries of CGIL CISL and Uil, Maurizio Landini, Luigi Sbarra And Pier Paolo Bombardieri and a delegation from CISL Abruzzo Molise with the secretary Giovanni Notaro. The CGIL, led by the secretary Carmine Ranieri, focus instead on Abruzzo. Specifically: in the province of Teramo it is scheduled for 9.30 am tomorrow, in via Matteotti a Giulianovathe procession that will end in Piazza della Libertà with the interventions of delegates and trade union delegates and the conclusions entrusted to Maria Grazia Gabrielli, national secretary of the CGIL. While already this evening, a Teramo, Cgil and Cisl will participate in the “Waiting for May Day” event. The event will open in the afternoon with the presentation of books and an in-depth analysis of current issues, followed by the union aperitif at 7pm. The day will end with a singing show.
In province of L’Aquila the workers’ day will be divided into three CGIL initiatives aimed at spreading the “Caravan of rights” starting from the regional capital where, starting from 8.30, a flash mob is scheduled in Piazzale Fonte Cerreto to denounce (ironically from 1 May) the impossibility of using the Gran Sasso cable car, with what this may result in terms of loss of employment and wages as well as the compromise of the tourism system present in the Abruzzo Apennines.
At 10.30 am Luco dei Marsi, in Piazza Umberto I°, the traditional celebration of workers will take place, with an eye towards the peasant struggles for emancipation and redemption which are still relevant today. The triptych of initiatives from L’Aquila will end in Sulmonaat 5pm in Piazza XX Settembre, to explore the issues of the impoverishment of the industrial fabric, depopulation, lack of services, and environmental aggression.
In the province of Chieti, for the first time, there is a joint initiative between Cgil Chieti and Cgil Molise which will be held at 9.30 am San Salvo Marina in the sports hall, aimed at a comparison between the two border realities and their institutional representatives regarding the need to create prospects for employment growth and health protection. Furthermore, in the afternoon we will move to Vasto Marina, at 3pm in Piazza della Guardia Costiera, where CGIL and CISL organized a round table to discuss workers’ health and safety. At the end there will be a musical event with the musical group “99 Posse”. “The choice of locations is not random,” he says Franco Spina, general secretary of Cgil Chieti, «this part of the territory needs to experience moments of border agreements between the two regions on issues, among others, such as services, infrastructure, transport, education, healthcare. In particular, the high incidence of the automotive hub and its future must be considered.” TO Pescara, the Province, in collaboration with CGIL-CISL-UIL-UGL and Confsal, will deliver, from 10am in the Sala dei Marmi, awards to workers who have distinguished themselves for their ability and commitment.
