From the shootings in Sezze and Latina to the baby gangs in the centre, summit in the Prefecture

First the gunshot on Friday evening in Latina, then the one on Saturday night in Sezze in which a 20-year-old was injured by mistake: it is for this reason that, this morning, the prefect Maurizio Falco convened the Committee to public order and safety. A table, the one chaired in the Civil Protection Room of the Prefecture of Latina, in which the mayors of Sezze and Latina, the provincial commander of the Carabinieri, the deputy commissioner of Latina and the provincial commander of the Guardia di Finanza participated.

Two serious and disturbing facts, where a firearm was used with extreme ease. Facts that have created alarm and concern and to which we want to immediately give a strong signal of combating crime and closeness to the community. In fact, from this evening, the extraordinary High Impact control services will be re-oriented in the affected territories for a minimum period of two weeks.

The importance of technologies was reiterated and in particular of video surveillance cameras which made it possible, in the case of Sezze, to identify the person responsible for injuring the young 20-year-old: a 37-year-old of Romanian origin who is still wanted by the police. Reassurances also came from the Deputy Assistant Police Commissioner for the events in Latina, the men of the Latina Police Headquarters are in fact close to identifying the person responsible in this case too.

“We are not satisfied with just getting to the people responsible – explains the prefect Maurizio Falco – we want to prevent these things”. It is from these words that the topic then moved on to the phenomenon of baby gangs in Latina, thanks to the episode that occurred on Saturday evening in the center of Latina where a 14 year old was attacked and beaten by a pack of very young people. “There is a sense of difficulty in preventing violence – continued the prefect – in the various forms that exist. This is where collaboration and analytical skills with the Municipality become fundamental. We asked Mayor Celentano and Mayor Lucidi what the problems are so that we can not only hire seasonal traffic policemen, but also overcome situations of economic difficulty to achieve a substantial presence of local agents in the area”.

There was also talk of the difficulty of the police force due to the serious shortage of personnel, which affects the territory. A speech which was personally addressed by the prefect asking for help from the government. The importance of improving connections with the police forces even at night was reiterated to the mayors, so that the intervention is carried out in the shortest possible time.

A discussion that has become increasingly broader, reaching what will be the tenders for the summer kiosks on the Latina seafront. It was Mayor Celentano who reminded us that soon there will be the much famous assignments for the management of the kiosks on the Latina seafront. The first citizen asked the authorities present for particular attention after the various episodes of intimidation received from the previous assignees.
