“The new Province is reduced to just over 200,000 inhabitants”

We receive and publish. Mayor Tidei is used to mocking his opponents instead of arguing in a serious and documented way and, on the issue of the New Province, he takes it out on councilor Clelia Di Liello, ignoring that the document against the so-called “Gate of Italy” has been signed by 13 councilors from various municipalities on the coast, including 4 councilors from Civitavecchia from the PD, i.e. the Mayor’s party.

The opposition document, in truth little disclosed by the press except in the merely introductory part erroneously attributed to councilor Di Liello alone, explains in great detail the reasons for the NO.

The document first of all denounces the disconcerting race for approval in the City Councils without the population itself having become aware of the issue which radically changes the lives of citizens.

Many municipalities that should have been part of it refused from the start, like the lake municipalities; Montalto and, it seems, Tarquinia and Monte Romano instead took off in the running as did Allumiere and Tolfa, and finally Cerveteri due to the declared opposition expressed by the Mayor herself.

The New Province is really reduced to just over 200,000 inhabitants, truly not self-sufficient to give life to the ambitious project proposed.

The common thread that should link the port of Civitavecchia to Fiumicino airport is undermined by the fact that Fiumicino is competing with Civitavecchia for the creation of a new cruise port. Furthermore, the port and airport taxes on which the new province seems to have precise aims belong and will remain in Rome Capital. .

Civitavecchia and Fiumicino are the two large cities that have already begun to argue for the title of capital of the future province.

The idea of the New Province exploits the ancient aspiration of Civitavecchia and the surrounding area to gain autonomy from Rome, when, however, things were different. At the time the provinces held greater powers and metropolitan cities did not exist, much less Rome, the capital which, as such, enjoys particular favorable conditions which it can extend to the cities of its area. In the last two years, around 67 million euros have been spent in the metropolitan area, an unthinkable figure in the new province. FUTURE COALITION.
