Bike sharing starting in Gravina and Altamura: discounts on the use of electric bikes for Fal users

Twenty-five stations, one hundred and twenty-five electric bikes accessible via app, discounts between 56 and 85% on the use of e-bikes for users in possession of travel tickets from Appulo Lucanian railways (Fal); interactive map of bike stations.

They are the characteristics of the new bike sharing service which will start on May 6th Gravina and 7 ad Altamura thanks to projects by sharing mobility presented by Fal and financed by the Puglia Region with 600 thousand euros each through funds from the interministerial decree 417/2022 which distributed the resources of the National Fund for Local Public Transportintended for the financing of projects aimed at promoting sharing mobility services.

Following a public notice issued by Fal, the service was awarded to Vaimooalready an operator of bike sharing services in many other municipalities.

Bike sharing in Altamura and Gravina «constitutes another piece in the offer of sustainable and modern mobility with a plurality of finally interconnected services at the centre”, comment from the leaders of the FAL. «The future of mobility designed together with the Puglia Region is therefore taking increasingly shape with the large Maas (Mobility as a Service) project aimed at digitalization of the local public transport system and the development of an integrated platform for planning personalized routes, also choosing between different multimodal solutions”.

To access the bike sharing service you need to download theVaimoo Bike Sharing App and create an account by registering with your email or with one of the available social methods (Apple ID, Google ID or Facebook).

After logging in you will be able to view a map with the closest stations that can be reached on foot in 5 minutes or you can browse the entire city map and book a bike, which will be reserved for 30 minutes. Having reached the nearest station, to rent a bike you need to select the vehicle in the app or scan the QR code present on the bicycle, click on the “Start ride” button and the bike will be unlocked and active.

To finish the race it is mandatory to park the e-bike in the spaces of one of the stations marked by special signs.

The e-bike sharing service works with subscriptions (BikePass) can be purchased in the app, plus a fee for every 30 minutes of use. If the user is in possession of a Fal travel ticket, they can enter it in the app under “redeem code” before purchasing the BikePass by framing the paper travel ticket with the phone’s camera or using the “upload photo” function to the digital travel document.
