With its recent initiatives, the metropolitan city of Catania has demonstrated several times that it is close to young people, students, children and their needs for outdoor recreational activities. For this reason, the organization has decided to support the Il Sorriso di Riccardo association in the creation of a playground in Giarre, in an area of building expansion also marked by the presence of schools, in particular the Amari high school. A space dedicated to children where teenagers can also access. The park is located in via Messina, a place of the heart for the parents of little Riccardo Sorbello, a child kidnapped from him by a serious oncological disease. In memory of the child, an association was founded which is raising funds for the creation of the playground.
The architectural firm that designed the playground implemented modernity and safety criteria to create a welcoming green space where children and parents can play and have fun. The park is already under construction and in its 1200 square meters there will be interactive games, sensory paths and a picnic area. The route, almost totally flat and easily accessible, is inclusive and suitable for the transit of wheelchairs for disabled people and strollers for newborns.
“The metropolitan city participated in raising funds for the construction of the Il Sorriso di Riccardo park, built in an area that requires green areas. The residents of Giarre and Mascali will be able to visit it safely, since the park will be fenced”. This is what metropolitan mayor Enrico Trantino declared regarding the playground, whose care and maintenance over time is the responsibility of little Riccardo’s parents, Ines and Marco Sorbello.
