REGGIO EMILIA – This is a story of super gas bills and a disputed letter of modification of contractual conditions. A story whose protagonists on one side are an elderly lady from Reggio Emilia together with her son who assists her with the bureaucratic procedures and on the other Iren.
A figure, just to clarify: 2,193.61 euros. It is the amount of the bill relating to the period November-December 2023 of the gas user of the 83-year-old, who resides in the city in a house of approximately 110 square meters. An amount that made the son of the pensioner, a widow, who lives alone, snap to attention. And here a dispute was born that has been going on for months and which does not only concern the cost of the bill, but also communication.
In October 2022 Iren sent the lady a letter with the communication of the change in the contract. But the lady and her family deny that they never received that letter. The lady’s son has proceeded with a complaint and is intent on seeing it through to the end.
The topic of so-called “crazy bills” is, of course, not new. Federconsumatori had raised the case in recent months, speaking of hundreds of users with gas bills of 1,500, 2 thousand and even 3 thousand euros.
