It opened this morning in the neighborhood Acquabona Of Crotone the construction site that, in fact, makes a mark the start of the works campaign of the Antica Kroton program. Specifically it concerns the cluster 2 which concerns the Urban Archaeological Area – Rediscovery of the central Acquabona district. The mayor inaugurated the activities Vincenzo Vocethe coordinator of the designers Alberto Giordanothe scientific coordinator of the program Rediscovery of the central Acquabona district Gloria Mitticasupport for Rup Caterina Carricolathe director of works Roberto Piperis and the members of the Ancient Kroton Municipal Operational Unit, directed by Antonio Senatore, Flora Spagnulo And Pino Tarantino.
The aim of the project, as has been illustrated, is the inclusion of the Acquabona site inside the circuit of the urban archaeological park network of the city of Crotone. We are, in fact, in an area that develops between the Esaro river and the Pignataro ditch which represents one of the neighborhoods of the ancient city of Kroton. The intervention, which among other things integrates perfectly with the construction of the new “Gravina” school above, aims to transform an area in a state of abandonment into a real open-air museum.
The execution of archaeological activities with a series of interventions that will make it possible to clarify the nature, type, extent and chronology of presences in the affected area. A weeding activity will be carried out, with the help of archaeologists, in order to proceed with the collection of erratic material for the evaluation of interventions in the sectors close to the emerging wall structures. Operations will be conducted in such a way as to do not affect the stratigraphic units relating to the structures. In fact, we will operate in the vicinity of the emerging structures also manually, avoiding abrasive tools on the surfaces. The subsequent excavations will develop by proceeding in depth with controlled mechanical excavation, with manual excavation in archaeological soil and with stratigraphic excavation in archaeological soil. Also foreseen is thearchaeological survey activitiesphotographic and georeferencing.

We have created an ad hoc unit for a fundamental project for the future of the city coordinated by Dr. Senator. They made a remarkable work, as well as the designers. This is the first construction site to open in the city, others will follow according to the pre-established timetable” said the mayor.
