In recent months the Porta Capuana area has been at the center of recovery interventions several times aimed at removing syringes abandoned by drug addicts who frequent the area, glass bottles, waste abandoned in the gardens and remains of night and day bivouacs. An immense effort that has not brought, at least so far, the desired results. Yesterday afternoon, however, Porta Capuana was literally illuminated by a ray of sunshine. The children of the San Lorenzo school, led by volunteers from various associations and civic committees, literally “got their hands dirty”, planting various plants in the square’s gardens.

Obviously the children’s intervention was preceded by a more massive intervention carried out by groups of volunteers who carefully cleaned the area in which to plant the plants and thus also allow the children to take back an open space which for too long has been one of the most frequented meeting points for that derelict humanity made up of drug addicts, drug dealers, prostitutes and criminals of all kinds.

It was the activist who gave life to the spark that then set the didactic-social intervention in motion Nicoletta Musellawhose appeal was responded to by some well-known city associations such as the Fatti di Napoletani Perbene group, the Savio Condemi association, and the Lanificio Sava association led by Vincenzo Trapani And Nunzio Esente who were also able to enjoy the support of the Social Canteen Vincent de Paul and the well-known chocolatier Mario Gallucciwho gave the very young gardeners some splendid chocolate roosters.

«This joint initiative – he explained Vincenzo Pope by Fatti di Napoletani Perbene – carried out together with friends of the Condemi association and the Mensa de Paoli, aims to be the start of a series of initiatives to bring decorum and beauty back to Porta Capuana, exploiting the driving force of the assignment requested and obtained by 100×100 Naples for the installation of flowerbeds and for safety. It is important to sow a sense of beauty in the hearts of children – continues Papa – and teach them that there can be something different. Yesterday a nice atmosphere and a nice synergy were created, with all the actors who spontaneously joined in, such as the Sava wool mill and Gallucci who gave chocolate roosters to the children. The only driving force is doing – concludes the president of Fatti di Napoletani Perbene – and we will continue to do. Other initiatives are on the horizon and Porta Capuana will be reborn.”

The objective of the volunteers and children was to “plant a seed” from which to then give rise to the hope that, one day, Porta Capuana too can become a square suitable for children. A square where you can play freely.
