CARPI (Modena) – They exploited the couriers and if anyone rebelled they launched punitive expeditions. Even the name Ak 47 Carpi, the acronym for the Kalashnikov, indicates the violent matrix of the organization dismantled by the Digos of Modena. The 18 arrested on charges of criminal association aimed at extortion, personal injury, threats, self-laundering, gangmastering are all Pakistanis, while two others are under investigation for attempted murder. Through an agency based in the Vicenza area they recruited manpower to supply to well-known shipping companies. The suspects forced the couriers to pay a large part of their wages, money that flowed into current accounts with hundreds of thousands of euros in about two years. Those who rebelled were punished with violent beatings using knives, iron clubs, cricket clubs or wooden sticks. The investigation began thanks to the complaint of a worker, who during a union meeting had been attacked by a fellow countryman and hospitalized with a prognosis of 100 days, but the group is also held responsible for other serious bloody events that occurred in Carpi a starting from 6 October two years ago, when a commando of 18 people from Brescia beat up and stabbed a Pakistani man, the same one who was later arrested for the attempted murder on 7 April last in Carpi in via Marx after the big brawl with machetes.
