The cycle of training meetings on organ donation ended on Saturday 13 April, promoted and carried out with the contribution of the volunteers of the Aido intermunicipal group of Corigliano Rossano and aimed at the three-year classes of the Rossano high school campus.

A project that took shape as part of the annual school orientation plan (DM 22 December 2022 n. 328), thanks to the Director, Prof. Antonio Franco Pistoia, always attentive to the students’ training activities, and to the sensitivity and perspicacity of the coordinator of orientation activities, prof. Rosa Barone.

Knowledge and correct information are the only weapons to restore to the society of the future young people capable of thinking critically, free from prejudices or stereotypes.

«Without culture there is no freedom, because there is no choice» to use the words of Paolo Crepet – who in turn refers us to the thoughts of the great Greek philosopher Socrates, according to which «knowledge makes you free and ignorance makes you slaves».

The project “Education on donation between social, civil and medical-health aspects” embraced various themes that involved the entire high school campus, reaching a user of approximately 640 students: from the importance of volunteering in today’s society, including nature and regulation of an ODV, Aido’s mission and expressions of will; to the purely medical-health aspects of donation, the narration of which was conducted by the expertise and experience of Dr. Maria Vigna, resuscitator and coordinator of the donation activities of the Annunziata of Cosenza.

What made the initiative special, however, were the students who not only asked questions but recounted the life experiences of friends, relatives and acquaintances, transforming themselves, without their knowledge, into witnesses of the donation.

On the other hand, those who are used to doing it by vocation spoke about the mystery of life, Don Pietro Madeo, a liver transplant recipient, who is grateful to those who gave him a second life, according to a plan that inexplicably favored him and not his neighbor in bed, in hospital.

Moving stories of those who have returned to life, because donation is a free choice of life for life!

This freedom arises from the culture which allows, using the famous Kantian contribution, “man’s exit from a state of minority” or from a condition of passive acceptance of dogmas, false myths and beliefs that are not supported by reason and knowledge . In short, a freedom that arises from a critical spirit towards which the minds of our students are educated
