New strike at Treves in Cazzano: workers in Bergamo for May 1st

On the eve of May 1st there is another hour-long strike today, as happened yesterday at the beginning of each shift, at Trèves Italia in Cazzano Sant’Andrea. On April 22, the textile company announced its intention to close the Bergamo plant, putting all 40 jobs at that site at risk. The prospect seems to be that of a conclusion of the temporary contracts by today, 30 April, and a closure of the Cazzano plant at the end of July.

The workers’ assembly, meeting in an extraordinary session on the evening of April 22nd, had unanimously voted to open the state of unrest with the proclamation of a package of strikes, which then took place on Wednesday 24th, Friday 26th April and, indeed, yesterday and today. All workers will be present at tomorrow’s demonstration in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Bergamo for May 1st. An RSU delegated worker will also take to the stage to represent all the employees.

The multinational Trèves had taken over Roi Automotive Technology srl of Cazzano in 2021. According to the company’s declarations, the Aprilia site, in the province of Latina, will remain open, active together with that of Cazzano in the production of car mats and parcel shelf, mainly for Stellantis. The intention to close the Bergamo site is motivated by the decline in Mirafiori’s production volumes and by the shift of the axis of the projects acquired by Trèves Italia to the Stellantis plants in Melfi, Cassino and Pomigliano which suffer from a geographical distance from the Bergamo production hub.

“The second meeting with the company in Confindustria is scheduled for Thursday 2 May” announce Milena Occioni of FEMCA-CISL and Giuseppe Errico of FILCTEM-CGIL of Bergamo. “We would like to underline again that we are well aware of the repercussions of the drop in volumes of Mirafiori but at the same time we believe that the current uncertainty of the automotive sector and its related industries necessarily leads to having to make much more cautious assessments. To date we understand that Mirafiori is using a solidarity contract. We would have considered it more appropriate to use the same tool also for Trèves Italia”.

The company’s intention is to activate an extraordinary redundancy fund for business closures until the end of the year, accompanied by early retirement incentives and active policies for relocation.
