Padova Water Marathon, a long weekend of races and events

The appointment with returns on time Padua Water Marathonan event organized by Padua rowers to promote and enhance the river, historical and cultural heritage of the city of the Saint. Now in its fifth edition this year, the event offers for Sunday 5 May a series of river canoeing competitions that will be enriched, starting from the day of Saturday 4 Mayfrom many collateral events.

The traditional formula that has made the event successful in previous editions has been revisited this year with two important innovations. First of all, the races will take place on a single day, next Sunday, and all the departures will take place from the Canottieri headquarters in via Polveriera.

The competitions have also been enhanced with the addition of a Stand Up Paddle competition. “An important novelty this year is the introduction of the international competitive Sup competition – declared the president of Canottieri Padova Andrea Massaggia – It is a discipline that has seen an explosion of popularity in recent years, helping to further broaden the audience of the event and attracting athletes and enthusiasts from different nations.”

There are many initiatives on the calendar and make the sporting event a real moment of celebration and promotion for the entire city of Padua. “For five years the event has allowed many, amateurs and athletes, to live the unique experience of admiring Padua from another perspective, paddling along the city’s rivers – specified the sports councilor of the Municipality of Padua Diego Bonavina – In addition to its sporting value, the Padova Water Marathon has a positive impact on local tourism, attracting enthusiasts from all over Italy to the city.”

An important event, therefore, for the territory which is among other things included in the calendar ofInternational Canoe Federation ICFwhich enjoys the patronage of Veneto regionfrom the Province of Paduaof the Municipality of Paduaof the CONI Venetofrom the FICK and ICF Sports Federations and the collaboration of Minister for Sport and Youththrough the Department for Sportsfrom the Chamber of Commerce of PaduaOf Venice Promexfrom the Civil Protection of the Municipality of PaduaOf Piovego Cooperativefrom the Italian Red Cross (Selvazzano Committee). Also present this year are the volunteers ofDog Profession – National Institute for Training Rescue Dog Units” who will also be available to give indications on the owner’s management of the interaction between dog/other dogs and to manage coexistence within delimited spaces but also on walks.

“The Padova Water Marathon goes beyond simple competition, it is an inclusive event open to all, with the aim of involving a large audience in this discipline – added Massaggia – Every year we see an increase in registrations, a sign that the event is becoming a point of reference not only in our territory, but also beyond national borders. Heartfelt thanks to the Municipality of Padua for their collaboration and for believing in the project. We also sincerely thank all the volunteers who, year after year, dedicate their time and energy to the success of this initiative.”

As for the program of the event, on Sunday, four races will take place along the Padua river ring.

COMPETITIVE CANOE. It will take place in the heart of the river ring on a 20km route within the waterway system that surrounds the city. Rowers and rowers will travel a stretch of the Bacchiglione, the Trunk Master that crosses the historic center of the city. After a transfer at the Sant’Agostino bridge (Specola area) they will continue along the Riviere, the Piovego and then make a second transfer at Voltabarozzo, enter the long Moscatore canal to then reach Bassanello and return to Canottieri. The first departure is scheduled for 9.00 am. Afterwards, for each race category all the other starts will be given with a gap of a few minutes from each other. The overall prize pool has also increased by 1,000 euros (600 euros for first place, 250 euros for second place and 150 euros for third place). The awards ceremony is scheduled for 1.00 pm.

AMATEUR. The amateur route involves 800 members and is open to canoeing, kayaking, SUP and surfskiing. Participants will take on a challenge along the waterways surrounding the city. Departure at 10.00. There are two transfers along the route, both manned and equipped with refreshment points. The first is found at Km5 with a characteristic crossing of the Sant’Agostino bridge close to the Specola astronomical observatory. The second at Km14 with a classic crossing of the Voltabarozzo locks.

UNDER 14. It is a route dedicated to Young Canoe teams. A non-competitive 10km race open to all boats in the Pupils and Cadet categories (9-14 years). The route winds up to the prestigious Specola where there will be a turning point after the fifth kilometre. The event places an emphasis on building bonds and friendships among young paddlers, beyond competition. The teams will have the opportunity to interact, exchange experiences and discover different ways of training. Departure at 12.30. Each participant will be given a medal in memory of the Padova Water Marathon.

COMPETITIVE SUP (Stand Up Paddle).. Double SUP route to get to know Padua. Immersed in the historic and picturesque atmosphere of Padua, athletes will compete in an intricate system of waterways that surrounds the city. There are two routes: the complete one is 20km. The first departure is scheduled for 9.00. Afterwards, for each race category all the other starts will be given with a gap of a few minutes from each other. The departure for the 10 km route is scheduled for 11.30. The great celebration of the Padova Water Marathon

Thanks to the collaboration with some sports clubs that overlook the banks of the Bacchiglione river, including Amissi del Piovego, Padua rowers, Piovego Cooperative And Rare Nantes PataviumSaturday 4 May will offer a series of events that will enrich the experience of the Padova Water Marathon.

The Amissi del Piovego, from 10.00, organize a rowing minitour Golena-Portello and return.

The Mura Committee also proposes guided tours to the bastion system of Golena San Massimo.

The Rowing Club headquarters comes alive with a little one ride along the Bacchiglione and with a short lesson on the first principles of rowing. There are two shifts at 10.00 and 15.00.

Rari Nantes instead offers a mini tours on rowing boats. There are two routes, the first from the historic site to the Specola, the second from Bassanello to Voltabarozzo. There are two shifts: at 10.00 and 15.00.

Finally, a convivial moment to discover the activities of the Piovego Cooperative: the appointment is from 11am with a aperitif in the suggestive Golena San Massimo
