Giovanni Pezone, Lorenzo Cosimi, Alessandro Guarducci, Luca Salvetti, Costanza Vaccaro, candidates to become mayor of Livorno, met in the Bishopric, in a meeting promoted by the Social and Labor Pastoral Office, the Social Communications Office, the ACLI and from MCL. The candidate Valentina Barale, however, chose not to appear at the meeting, communicating this only a few hours before the event.

Four questions to which the candidates answered in a maximum of two minutes each, with a final reply in which they could specify topics covered in the previous questions, launch a new idea for Livorno, or make an appeal to vote for their own coalition, all live streaming on the channel Youtube of the Diocese. An interesting comparison, whose strings were then drawn by the bishop, Msgr. Giusti, leveraging above all the arguments that the candidates had in common and in particular on support for the third sector, an irreplaceable driving force in the life of the city.

These are the questions asked to the candidates

1. Port, industry and hospital. These are the hot topics in the field of work and employment. What timescales and plans for the Darsena Europa? What design for the former TRW area? What are the prospects for the new hospital?

2. In 2017, the consolidated text for the reform of the third sector was adopted in which the entire regulation of non-profit organizations in our country was legally and fiscally reorganised. The legislative text provides for a strong integration between the public and third sectors with the institutes of co-programming and co-planning together with the possibility of implementing policies and support with tax relief in the respective competences of local authorities. How do you intend to implement this relationship with the third sector and, above all, what financial support policies do you plan to ensure to support the city’s third sector?

3. What do you think of the housing policies of the municipality of Bologna? Everyone has the right to housing: is such a choice conceivable for Livorno too? A remodulation of rents for less well-off families and a revolution in the criteria for assigning public housing?

4. A proposal that the bishop continually makes is to establish an educational pact between institutions, schools, parishes, volunteers, sports, etc. to educate about legality and respect, also establishing a sort of school-volunteer alternation in addition to that school-work. What do you think?
