Zapponeta: commemoration in memory of the Selected Officer Ugo Ragusa and the Selected Carabiniere Mauro Fatone, who died in service in 2011.

The ceremony took place in Zapponeta in memory of the Selected Officer Ugo Ragusa and the Selected Carabiniere Mauro Fatone, who on 28 April 2011 lost their lives in a dramatic accident on Provincial Road 73.

The Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Foggia, Col. Michele Miulli, together with the mayor, Dr. Vincenzo Riontino, civil, military and religious authorities, as well as the families of the victims, went to the site of the accident, where a stele was created in memory of the two Carabinieri who tragically disappeared.

After a religious function celebrated at the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, in the presence of the students of the Ungaretti – Mother Teresa of Calcutta comprehensive school, a floral tribute was finally placed on the commemorative plaque placed at the entrance of the local Carabinieri Station, where both soldiers were serving. On the occasion, Colonel Michele Miulli recalled the figure of the two Carabinieri, expressing to their families the closeness of the entire force and underlining how much their dedication and sacrifice can represent a source of inspiration for the young students present at the commemoration.

The speech of the mayor, who recalled the work carried out by the two soldiers in favor of the community and citizens of Zapponeta, was followed by that of the families of the two Carabinieri, who expressed gratitude for the initiative aimed at keeping their memory alive.
