Winning projects announced to celebrate community on May 31st

The Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation has announced the outcome of the selection of community projects for the European Neighborhood Day, an event which will take place on May 31st. This initiative saw the participation of 37 associations from the Matera and Potenza area, with a strong presence of youth groups.

In total, 20 projects were selected, divided equally between the cities of Matera and Potenza. These projects range across a wide range of themes, from environmental sustainability to urban art, from social inclusion to sport, and include activities such as games, workshops, community dinners and snacks, as well as bookcrossing and circus art initiatives.

European Neighborhood Day, which originated in Paris in 1999 and has been celebrated across Europe since 2003, aims to strengthen community bonds, promote solidarity and tackle social isolation. The events are designed to actively engage suburbs and other city areas, fostering a sense of belonging among residents.

In the next few days, the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation will coordinate the various initiatives with the winning associations and will announce the official program of events.
