MESSINA – With the victory on the 12th day of the Women’s Second Division Championship, Messina Volley closes the tournament in first place with 34 points. The girls coached by Mister Domenico Rizzo had already secured first place in the Silver group thanks to their 11 point lead over Ggsd Mondo Giovane, second place. And it is precisely against coach Antonio Capillo’s athletes that the yellow-blue team won 3-1, within the friendly walls of the “PalaRescifina”, in this last outing of the season.
Captain Carmen Tiano and her teammates stood out throughout the tournament with 11 victories (10 consecutive) and only one defeat on the penultimate day in the tie-break against Ottica Cavallaro Peloro Volley. Of the 35 sets won, there are only 8 lost, while 1035 are the points scored against the 824 conceded.

“The objective we set ourselves for this season – declares coach Rizzo – was to play a tournament that could allow us to improve technically and tactically without any ambitions in terms of ranking. Match after match we realized the results obtained and began to believe we could make a good progress, obviously up to the mathematical certainty of first place. Our path was characterized by 11 victories and only one defeat, moreover in a tie-break, and therefore we can say that we dominated the group. I am satisfied with these results especially for the girls and their work in the gym. We had confirmation that with work and commitment results eventually come. For us, personal and team growth is important and there is no greater satisfaction than overcoming one’s limits and constantly improving. It’s obvious that winning satisfies you for the sacrifices and work in the gym.”

Our performance was important and I like to praise the commitment and dedication on the pitch and I am convinced that many girls are worth keeping an eye on for the future. From my point of view, returning to the field after years of hiatus was an incredible feeling. The passion and emotion are still alive, but there is also the awareness of one’s experience and knowledge of the game. As captain I would like to sincerely thank coach Domenico Rizzo and sporting director Mario Rizzo, for their commitment, support and dedication throughout the season. Without them we would not have been able to achieve our goals and celebrate this success.”
