appears between two villages, at low tide

Halfway between two seaside villages, there is the “virtual” site, an evocative place. A beach of about 7 kilometers with a precarious balance and a distant origin

Between Ganzirri and Torre Faro there is one of the most important beach rocks in Italy. It is a mix of sandy and gravelly sediments that emerge from the sea a few centimeters from the shore and constitute, as in the case of Messina, a sort of natural walkway.

At low tide a phenomenon occurs that transforms the coast into a set of lagoon pools. Ganzirri and Torre Faro are in fact the two points that enclose the Ionian coast of Messina and which offer a crazy view of the Strait of Messina.

Halfway between these two seaside villages is the virtual site of the laying of the bridge bases. A beach of about 7 kilometers with a precarious balance and a very distant origin, here where the geological part of “African Sicily” met the Italian seabed millions of years ago.

A suggestive panorama where various sustainable hospitality businesses are being created, including chef Antonella Adragna’s home restaurant.

In just 3 kilometers of sea, the seabed exceeds one thousand meters and it is not uncommon to find strandings of abyssal fish or the passage of fin whales. Another feature of these coves is the communication via canals with the Ganzirri lakes where the most famous mussels in Sicily are bred.

The municipality recently ordered construction the views of the lake which recall the small piers on Swiss lakes. Also on Ganzirri there are numerous activities related to the lakes, such as rowing and fishing.

Between a lake and the Ionian beach the distance is often just a few tens of metres. A very precarious habitat, recently reclaimed, due to the strong anthropization and overbuilding of the water front, see the numerous cases of illegal construction.

This area is still little visited by tourists and holidaymakers who focus more on the “Pilone” area, the old Messina antenna 224 meters high which together with the Calabrian one ensured the electrification of Eastern Sicily.

From 1955 to 1985 these enormous power lines they connected Sicily and Calabria. Now they are giant skeletons that have become a destination for onlookers and photographers, starting points for panoramic photographs of the Strait.
