Viterbo – “The choice of the mayor Chiara Frontini’s administration to ditch the underground car park in Piazza Martiri d’Unità can only worsen the situation of the Shrine”. Councilor Giulio Marini intervenes after the events of last Friday, the maxirissa at the Shrine with baseball bat blows complete with a car that hit a person. Three arrested, four reported.

“A project, that of the underground car park at the Shrine – says Marini – financed with the quality of living and there were already 4 million euros available. Funds that could be integrated with Pnrr financing. A project that had been underway for 40 years. An initiative that Frontini suddenly scuttled.” For what reason? “Because it is a carryover area – replies Marini -. An area where the rubble from the bombings of the Second World War was buried.”
“The project – continues the councilor – would have removed the cars from the surface and given space to the beauty of the neighborhood. A way to let citizens experience that space, avoiding leaving it in the hands of situations like those that occurred last Friday. The historic center needs public works that guarantee livability, beauty and quality of life. And in this direction, it would have been fundamental to continue the recovery of the area begun with the Plus in Valle Faul more than ten years ago”.

For Marini, it would also be necessary to delve deeper into the context that led to the clashes at the shrine last weekend. “A real analysis must be done – explains Marini -, to understand what is happening in that part of the city. A bit like we did in 2009 when, as municipal administration, we commissioned the sociologist Francesco Mattioli to make an evaluation of the nightlife, a significant phenomenon at the time. We also distributed a questionnaire to the young people. A dynamic to which we tried to pay attention with a series of measures, including the anti-alcohol ordinance.”
