Sicily weather: still hot in the next few hours! May 1st uncertain with some rain.

In the last few hours we have witnessed a new increase in temperatures, where in some cases +30°C have been reached and even locally exceeded. Even today’s evening has an almost summery flavour, and all this will remain unchanged for several more hours. This results from a high pressure field that has positioned itself over the central Mediterranean in recent days, and although it will weaken and move eastward during tomorrow, Tuesday 30 April 2024, we will still suffer a new slight temperature increase. This time, however, the consequence will be attributed to a brief southern mild recall, with a clear increase in ventilation. In fact, a colder and more unstable air mass will enter the central-western Mediterranean in the next few hours, and will be responsible for some disturbances associated with light rainfall and an associated drop in temperature during the May 1st holiday.

An increase in cloud cover is expected during tomorrow morning, with the first clouds arriving from the Sicily Channel to our island. Ventilation that will be available from mainly siroccal quadrants, with gusts that will locally reach a storm/gale character, especially in the most exposed areas of the northern Tyrrhenian sector. In the afternoon/evening a further increase in cloud cover will produce the first scattered rain. They will initially involve the southern sector of from Trapani/AgrigentoBass Ragusano And Syracusan and then move over the hours towards Palermo, Messina and areas central. Even in Catania we expect some scattered rain. It will mainly be light rains, as the stormy peak will remain relegated to between Tunisia And Sardinia. Temperatures will continue to rise slightly, with maximum temperatures that locally could reach and exceed +30°C.

The public holiday of 1 May 2024 it will still be conditioned by the cloudy passage mentioned above, with still some rain rising from the Channel of Sicily which will affect our island, especially in the early hours of the night and in the morning. However, it will not be constant and intense rainfall, as we will also have long breaks. An atmospheric improvement is expected starting from the western sectors during the central hours of the day, where we expect greater clearing alternating with scattered clouds. However, scattered short rainfall will still be possible in the eastern sectors, especially in the Messina area. Temperatures will suffer a sharp drop compared to the previous day, especially between the afternoon and evening. Ventilation, on the other hand, will decrease as the hours go by from W/Sw.
