G7 in Turin, protesters throw eggs and bottles. Repelled with tear gas

An hour and a half of tension and clashes in the center of Turin, a few hundred meters from the hotels hosting the 34 G7 delegations.

After the peaceful blitz by Extinction Rebellion activists, who violated the “red zone” in the highly armored Piazza Carlo Emanuele IIit was the student collectives and young people from the social centers who took to the streets, with representatives of Askatasuna in the front row.

The procession, composed of about 200 kidsstarted from Palazzo Nuovo, wanted to join his “comrades” on the roof of the biology faculty and immediately headed towards the police blockade in Via Po. The first contacts took place in via Sant’Ottavio and in via Verdiwhere protesters tried to break through the police cordon and were repelled with shields.

Tension began to rise in Corso San Maurizio, when from the front rows began beatings with flag poles, throwing eggs and smoke bombs to which the police responded with water cannons.

At that point the students tried, without success, to get around the blocks by passing through the Murazzi on the banks of the Po and then headed towards the streets of Movida, in Vanchiglia. Running between the tables they reached Via Santa Giulia, but were stopped again by armored police vehicles in Largo Montebello. Here there were violent clashes, combined with the throwing of bottles and the police responded by throwing tear gas.

One boy remained wounded in the head and at that point the procession returned towards New Palace. But when the demonstration seemed to be over, a group of activists attacked the officers lined up near the Cinema Massimo twice. Chairs and tables flew and two police charges began.

The demonstration, match at 7.30pm ended around 9pm with around 60 people identified by Digos who could be reported by Digos in the next few hours.

About fifty Extinction Rebellion have also been identified who participated in the – peaceful – blitz of the afternoon. The police, who removed the banner “The king is nake, G7 is a scam” from the roof of the Biology faculty (a stone’s throw from the NH Carlina Hotel which hosts the 7 ministers) seized climbing ropes and Swiss-style pocketknives. Three activists could be charged.
