The last Observatory consisting of Palazzo San Giacomo is the one on Economy and Society of City of Naples. Here it is, brand new. A project in partnership with the Federico II University. Cost for the consideration: 60,000 euros plus VAT, for a total of 73,200 euros. Announcing the arrival of one determined to contract from the Municipality’s Accounting Department. The office books the shopping necessary for the launch of the structure. Resources from the 2024/26 budget. Did you want to miss the Observatory on Economy and Society? And no.

Its birth, the administration claims, was very timely. In fact, we remember the “strong synergy” between the paths of “financial recovery” led by Pact for Naples and by the multi-year financial rebalancing plan, on the one hand and, “on the other, the very large investment program being implemented through the resources of the Pnrr and other community, national and regional programs”. To these funds are added the resources of the municipal budget “which, precisely on the basis of the Pact for Naples – it is underlined –, the Municipality is committed to valorising, as a multiplier of investments”. And by multiplying here, multiplying there, we remember how the programs are based “on planning and rigorous measurement” of the results. Goals, it comes naturally, whose repercussions “it is very important over the 2022-2026 time horizon“, beyond which the Pnrr spending program must be 100% implemented. In short, the refrain is not new: we need to move fast, with the Recovery Fund. And so a beautiful Observatory is a perfect fit.

The strategy precisely highlights “the correlation between financial recovery and the structural development of the city”summarized in the three-year programming cycles “in force from time to time”. And programming, as we know, has the need “to be based on a wealth of information that is as up-to-date as possible on the economic and social fabric of the City”. From here arises the need for “acquire and systematize macroeconomic and social data“. The ambitious objective, they guarantee, will be achieved with the establishment of the Economy and Society Observatory of the City of Naples. An act foreseen by the Dup 2024-2026, and approved by resolution of the city council on 10 April.

“The implementation of the Observatory project, which – explains the determination – hfor the purpose of detecting and making usable a wealth of data that can guide the programs and strategic actions of the Municipality, to enhance its role as an essential economic and social actor, is consistent with the use of the technical and scientific skills of the university structures present in the area Campania territory“. Federico II, moreover, will operate in collaboration with other universities. Among the tasks of the expert think tank: “Analysis and processing of data in the fields of local finance, economic fabric of the city of Naples, inequality, poverty, demographics, economic and social impacts of the policies pursued by the Municipality starting from 2022“. The Observatory will have to produce two reports “on the situation and the economic and social perspective of the City”. 2026 is just around the corner. So, come on, let’s start observing right away.
