Viterbo – We receive and publish – Today the province of Viterbo has sent its requests and observations regarding sizing for the 2025/2026 school year to the Lazio region.

The Lazio region, in compliance with national legislation, has in fact foreseen that in the province of Viterbo two school autonomies will be reduced for the 2025/2026 academic year. In practical terms it means that in Tuscia no school will be closed, but that two or more previously autonomous school managements will have to be merged.
In sending its observations on the matter to the Lazio region, the province of Viterbo carried out an in-depth study which also and above all takes into account the student population, municipality by municipality, and the existing public transport network. The objective is in fact to suggest a line of action to the region, with the consequent reduction of two school autonomies, in a way that has the least possible impact on the territory and on the needs of students, parents, teaching staff and school staff.
The president of the province of Viterbo Alessandro Romoli also sent a letter to the Lazio region in which he asked the body to be the spokesperson in the appropriate forums for the need to review the numerical parameters relating to the provision of nursery and primary school services .
The task of the institutions must in fact also be to counteract the ongoing process of declining birth rates and the depopulation of small towns. Processes that are often accelerated by the lack of essential services such as schools for the little ones.
The intervention of the Lazio region and the relevant ministries is therefore increasingly urgent as the numerical parameters relating to the provision of the aforementioned services are today incompatible with the realities of small municipalities. In fact, there is a great need to ensure that even in small towns there are school principals who can help young families.
