Novara – The direct clash between Novara and Fiorenzuola ends 2-0; the Gaudenziani emerged victorious thanks to a brace from Oliver Urso. A victory that was not enough to avoid the playoffs, because both Pergolettese and Pro Sesto triumphed. Victory for the last team, which however was of little use in the Sesto San Giovanni area, given that the Milanese team was relegated in the last final minutes among the amateurs. In fact, the playouts, scheduled for 12 and 19 May, will be played exclusively by Novara and Fiorenzuola with Arzignano and Pergolettese therefore directly safe. An epilogue that could have gone in favor of Mr. Gattuso’s team, if he hadn’t conceded that late goal in Trieste, when we were already ready to talk about a feat and perhaps, even if we want to exaggerate, a “Lomonachian” miracle. Miracles or feats, as you prefer to call them, which the former general director of Catania was able to accomplish in various places. It must also be said that, if we had collected fewer draws, having been one of the places with the most draws in Italy this year, perhaps direct salvation would have been seen a few weeks earlier. But in football, the one who scores the most goals and the one who brings home the most victories wins. And the latter only started arriving at the end of December 2023: a delay that penalized and significantly affected the path of the new ownership.
Although changes and enormous steps forward, in a positive sense, have been made. Now it’s time to recharge your energy, clear all the negative thoughts in your head and concentrate on these last two challenges which are worth as much as a world final for the season.
We return to Fiorenzuola to make the play-offs exactly 23 years later, with the hope of being able to repeat what happened way back in 2001. With a Novara who, thanks to Edoardo Braiati’s goal, sent the Piacenza team to the amateurs. Precisely that team which, among the eleven on the pitch, fielded ‘a certain’ Giacomo Gattuso, now on the Azzurri’s bench…
