Tuesday 30 April 2024 “Aldo Cossu” Aula Magna, University of Bari Aldo Moro. Piazza Umberto I, Bari

Part Tuesday 30 April in Bari a cycle of 6 events dedicated to the Sustainable Development Strategy of the Puglia Region. It is organized by the Environment Department of the Puglia Region, in collaboration with ASSET, the Strategic Regional Agency for the Eco-sustainable Development of the Territory.

Education for sustainable development and global citizenship for the territories: from national strategies to the Puglia 2030 education plan”, this is the title of the first meeting to be held in the “Aldo Cossu” Aula Magna, University of Bari Aldo Moro (Piazza Umberto I, 2.30pm – 5.30pm).

Why talk about Regional Sustainable Development Strategy

The meetings, which will be itinerant, touching all the provinces of Puglia, have the aim of making known a Regional Strategy which, through shared and interconnected objectives, acts as a tool for orient regional policies towards sustainable development consistent with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and the National Sustainable Development Strategy and that supports economic growth in harmony with ecosystem integrity and social equity.

In particular the first of these events will offer a multilevel point of view on the issues of education for sustainable development and global citizenship in light of the recent approval of the Puglia2030 Regional Education Plan for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.

The Education Plan for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Puglia2030 it is a strategic planning document that will guide actions over the next few years, up to 2030. Various actors will be involved, including schools, public and private institutions, businesses, associations and citizens of all ages.

In line with the objectives of the United Nations and the 2030 Agenda, the Puglia Region underlines the crucial importance of education to achieve sustainable and lasting development.

The Puglia2030 Regional Plan aims to be a living and programmatic document, capable of actively involving all citizens and regional and territorial institutions.
Its implementation will require the collaboration and commitment of all the actors involved, as well as the promotion of networks and synergies between the various entities present in the area. This is an ambitious but crucial challenge to build a more just, equitable and sustainable future for present and future generations.

The meeting in Bari

In the meeting on Tuesday 30 April in Bari and in the other 5 meetings, speakers operating in national and regional contexts will offer the opportunity to highlight the implications that these educational processes can have for the territories and their centrality for the implementation of the ‘Agenda 2030 and national and regional strategies for sustainable development and global citizenship.

In particular tomorrow, after the institutional greetings and the opening lecture by Enrico Giovannini (co-founder and scientific director of the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development – ASviS), we will also talk about centrality of the territories for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, citizenship education with a view to sustainable development, perspectives of the centers for education for sustainable development in the Puglia region. Virtuous examples will also be presented such as the contribution of the INFEAS network for sustainable development and climate change in Sardinia.

The meeting will be conducted by the director in charge of Environment&Environments, Lucia Schinzano.

The Speakers

Gabriella Calvano is Researcher at the Department of Humanistic Research and Innovation – University of Bari Aldo Moro. Coordinator of the RUS Education Group.

Gigi Carrino, rresponsible for environmental communication and education activities for ARPA Puglia, he participated in the various dedicated tables of the National Environmental Protection System and carried out various education projects aimed at the world of schools.

Gianluca Cocco, Public manager, is currently director of the Environmental Sustainability, Strategic Assessment and Information Systems Service (SVASI) at the General Directorate of Environmental Protection of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. Technical coordinator of the Environment, Energy and Sustainability Commission of the Conference of Regions for the matters within his competence. He has been working for years on environmental issues (climate change, sustainability, GPP, assessments), energy issues (efficiency, public lighting and mobility) and new technologies (information systems and monitoring networks).

Mara Cossu is ccoordinator for the implementation of the National Sustainable Development Strategy of the Ministry of the Environment and Security, where she is particularly interested in tools and technologies for sustainable development.

Serena Haass Spithover is Global Citizenship Education Sector Representative for the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. Among his activities, the management of Global Citizenship Education projects, the coordination of the National Multi-actor Table dedicated to ECG and the participation in the Global Education Network Europe (GENE).
