May 1st is Labor Day, an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on workers’ rights. Although it is a day of celebration, it is important to remember those who fought and continue to fight for these rights.
Among the various events scheduled, the commemoration of the 1947 massacre is held in Portella della Ginestra, organized by CGIL Palermo and FP CGL. The day begins with the laying of a wreath of flowers at the Piana degli Albanesi cemetery, followed by the gathering at the Casa del Popolo in Piana and the procession towards the Portella memorial, with a commemoration ceremony.
There are also numerous festivals and events planned, such as the feast of the Holy Crucifix in Monreale, with parades, musical performances and cabaret shows. The “Flower Festival” is held in Acireale, with a 12-hour “Concertone” of non-stop music and other attractions for the whole family.
For those who prefer cultural experiences, there are many art exhibitions to visit, such as “Palermo Felicissima” at Palazzo Bonocore and “Thesaurus” at Palermo’s Royal Palace, which offer a time journey through the city’s history. Outside of Palermo, the “Elyma” exhibition allows you to discover the archaeological temple of Segesta through plant installations and sound sculptures.
