On Lake Como with Segreta Isola 28 artists exhibit ‘The art of experiencing beauty’ in the Landscape Museum

In the wake of the celebrations of the birth of Pliny the Elder which took place between 23 and 24 AD, “Segreta Isola” of Como and the “Association of free artists of the Province of Varese” joined forces for a series of events entitled “MIRABILIA – the art of experiencing beauty”. For the occasion, two well-known associations from the cities of Como and Varese created an ideological bridge of art and culture to revive the sense of beauty at the basis of the genius of Pliny: writer, naturalist, philosopher, military commander and prosecutor of Rome, a sort by Leonardo da Vinci from the Roman imperial age. Segreta Isola”, Association of artists from Como, directed by the President, the architect Doriam Battaglia, is not new to events linked to Pliny, last year it in fact gave life to an evocative art exhibition entitled “Otium, the art of living well” built within the archaeological site of the Roman Baths of Como, whose project, although subsequently carried out by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, remains an effective manifestation of the ingenuity of Pliny the Elder. The “Association of free artists of the province of Varese”, directed by President Daniele Garzonio, promptly responded to the request to form a cultural bond between the two cities, adhering to the initiative without delay.

The common desire to create an event that could enhance the majesty of Pliny the Elder’s thought through art and beauty, bringing the spectator into a vortex of emotions and particular suggestions, was the genesis of the title of the exhibition: “Mirabilia – the art of experiencing beauty”.

The first of the scheduled events will be held until May 19th (open from Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm) at the Lake Como Landscape Museum in Villa Mainonain Tremezzo, an extraordinary residence of the Mainoni family, located on the western shore of Lake Como in Tremezzo, in the municipality of Tremezzina, from which it is possible to enjoy a breathtaking view. THE twenty-eight artists present they show through their works – paintings, sculptures, graphic designs – their own personal vision and interpretation of the “Art of experiencing beauty”.
