Albesiano reveals the formula to beat Ducati

Aprilia didn’t reap much satisfaction in Jerez, who achieved eighth place with Miguel Oliveira ahead of the official Maverick Vinales, shortly after the astonishing success achieved by Vinales himself in Texas. The Spaniard was unable to express himself on the Spanish track and the sporting director of the Venetian company Romano Albesiano understood where the mistake was.

The Piedmontese said: “I’m happy with the performance overall, though we must be able to manage variable situations better, as happened here. We ruined our weekend in qualifying”. The rain arrived during the night between Friday and Saturday and this completely upset the team’s plans. Albesiano is convinced of this: “If it had been a weekend, it was either all dry or all wet we probably would have fought for the podium. We need to improve the consistency of performance. The performance itself is very good.”

The aspects to improve and what Aprilia is now most focused on

Albesiano then delved into the topic of variable conditions by saying: “It’s the sum of many things: choices, knowledge of the bike’s reaction, riders who perhaps adapt a little earlier, knowledge of the tire that we started studying it a little after the others. On certain things we have to chase. We need to have more consistency.”. The one that Ducati still has more than all the other manufacturers in MotoGP. Making a comparison with KTM, Albesiano admitted: “Last year and this year we won races, unlike them. But maybe they are more constant than us”.

Certainly one aspect on which attention is now focused is the departure: “We are not able to overtake others at that stage. We are very committed to this and this is where we have the most room for recovery. Vinales started eleventh and was then unable to recover and the work with him is specific on one aspect: “For Maverick it is essential to find the balance between how the front and rear tire works. Have neither oversteer nor understeer”.

The Noale manufacturer is already working on the 2027 bike

The technical regulation which will overturn the current one and which will be valid starting from 2027 should be officially released soon. At the moment there is no official news, but Albesiano said: “We have already started working on the 2027 bike, on the most important issues that have already been decided. The first part we work on is the engine which must already be created in a motorcycle layout. Each team will try to bring the new bike to the track in the spring of 2026, if not before, and then we’ll see. This will divert resources from the development of the bike which will be used until 2026. This is a big commitment for the manufacturers”.
