Asti, the trees felled in Valmanera were cut “for safety”

The felling of trees in Valmanera street, which occurred a few days ago, continues to take place. Not only in the City Council, but also on social media where the case is at the center of a lively controversy between those in favor (few) and those against (most). The minority city councilors denounced the cutting of numerous plants along the Valmanera road, which were on private land. They filed a question on the case, with a series of technical questions on the timing of the abatement, to ask if the administration was aware of the decision to cut them.

A first response comes from the deputy mayor Stefania Morra: «The area does not belong to the Municipality, but to private individuals. However, the Municipality issued an order telling the owner to check the safety of the trees since there had been some critical issues. In August last year one of the plants was knocked down by a storm and fell onto high tension cables. For us, the safety of people, many people pass on the Valmanera road, comes first – adds Morra – So the Municipality asked the owners to carry out the necessary checks and take action. It wasn’t the administration that indicated which plants to cut down, but an agronomist.”

As regards any timing with respect to regional regulations, also raised by the minority, the deputy mayor reminds us that “for safety reasons it is possible to intervene in derogation”.
