Bimbimbici returns on Sunday 5 May

Bimbimbici is back! After the first edition last year, in which over six hundred children and adults participated, on Sunday 5 May new appointment with the great ride organized by FIAB Livorno La Triglia in Bicicletta. Bimbimbici is a national event of FIAB (Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation) which for many years has taken place in many large and small cities in Italy and which aims to promote active mobility and spread the use of bicycles among young and very young people.

“This year too Bimbimbici – which enjoys the patronage of the Municipality and is part of the Sulla Felicità Festival program – presents itself first of all as a festive occasion on two wheels” they explain from FIAB “but it also aims to encourage constant reflection on the importance of a correct lifestyle for adults and children (it is no coincidence that the event also enjoys the patronage of SIP, the Italian Society of Paediatrics) as easy and sustainable as that linked to the use of the bicycle, starting from moving home – school that thousands of parents and children do every day on scooters or even in cars even to cover short distances”.

“A very important innovation that we have introduced this year and of which we are particularly proud” continue the organizers “is the collaboration with the social cooperative Il Melograno, creator of a project on accessible mobility called Ruote Libere. The association will be present upon arrival at the Terrazza Mascagni with a series of special bikes for inclusive cycling to show/try them to those who want to test their use”.

Bimbimbici will take place along a five kilometer route that from Piazza Dante, in front of the station, through the historic heart of the city – Viale Carducci, Piazza della Repubblica, Via Grande, Scali Novi Lena – will end at the Terrazza Mascagni and, like last year, it is aimed at children and families, and in general at those who want to join: the itinerary is short, flat and exceptionally will take place on a road thanks to the presence of the municipal police along the entire route.

“The choice to start from the station was functional to the dual objective, on the one hand, of promoting the Ciclostazione to be established (making the project known to the participants) and, on the other, of encouraging participation in Bimbimbici also by those who wanted to arrive from other municipalities in the province” conclude from the FIAB Livorno headquarters “in fact for now Livorno is the only city in our territory that organizes the event and therefore we would like other cycling friends to be able to take part by arriving by train!”.

The meeting will be at 10.00 for the registration of the little participants with departure scheduled for 10.30 (arrival expected at 12.00). Please remember that there is a contribution of €2 for the insurance coverage of each child cycling to be carried out on site (not for accompanying adults and not for children riding with their parents; participation is not foreseen for children* on bicycles with wheels).
