Investigations exclude Services involvement in the incident near Giambruno’s car

Two men outside the house of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the night between 30 November and 1 December. They were fiddling around the car of their ex-partner, Andrea Giambruno, while the prime minister was on a mission in Dubai. In the episode, however, as undersecretary to the Prime Minister Alfredo Mantovano, who has responsibility for intelligence, clarified – no “members of the Services” were involved and the Prime Minister’s security “was never put at risk”.

The reconstruction of “Tomorrow”

The news was reported in an article published on Sunday 28 April by “Domani”, which reported on the alarm triggered on that occasion. In the newspaper’s reconstruction, that night a car approached the house in the Torrino district. Two men get out, turn on a torch or a mobile phone and start fiddling around Giambruno’s car. However, there is a police car stationed on surveillance duty to monitor the scene. An officer gets out and asks the two about their movements. The men identify themselves as “colleagues” without showing identification documents and walk away.

The report

A report is drawn up on the incident which ends up at Digos; – again according to the article in Tomorrow – the head of the Police, Vittorio Pisani, the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, the Authority delegated to the security of the Republic, Mantovano and the Prime Minister herself are notified. The capital’s prosecutor’s office would also have been informed. Initially, suspicions fell on two men from AISI, the intelligence agency for internal security, who were part of Meloni’s escort.

007 exonerated thanks to the testimony of the telephone cells

The two are then transferred to Aise, the agency that deals with foreign countries. However, the AISI investigations later exonerated the 007s who that night – and the telephone cells would testify to this – were elsewhere.

The hypothesis that it was two thieves

The two could have simply been thieves looking for something in Giambruno’s car. The fact, according to the newspaper, would also have influenced the appointment of the new director of AISI, blocking the way for one of the eligible candidates, Giuseppe Del Deo, to lead the Agency group that investigated the case. Mantovano does not go into the details of the matter, but simply reveals that he reported it on 4 April in his hearing at Copasir, where he clarified that «the investigations carried out for the part falling within the competence of the intelligence have made it possible with certainty to exclude the involvement of members of the Services, and that President Meloni’s safety has never been put at risk.”
