The soldiers of the Gioia Tauro Carabinieri Station have been intensifying their actions in recent weeks to combat illegal water use and investigate environmental crimes. Recently, they closed the sixth car wash in their area in a short space of time due to the illegal use of municipal water. On this occasion, following an inspection by the military personnel, an illegal car wash was identified in the peripheral area of Gioia Tauro which was carrying out its activity in the absence of mandatory authorisations. The owners of the business did not possess either the Certified Report of the Start of Activity (SCIA) or the Single Environmental Authorization (AUA), which demonstrates a profound deficiency in terms of environmental and administrative guarantees.
Furthermore, they were not able to provide any other documentation enabling the car wash activity and were not in possession of any waste disposal register or any municipal authorization to discharge it into the sewer system. The owners of the car wash were thus reported for aggravated theft of public water and for violation of the Environmental Code. Once again, legality has been restored in Gioia Tauro thanks to pervasive and constant control in specific matters, to guarantee the environment and the common good.
