Many people peacefully invaded Piazza della Repubblica in Marsala yesterday, responding to the appeal of the “Even Numbers Network” for a day of fasting and reflection for peace. An initiative born from the idea of Salvatore Inguì, Libera’s provincial representative, who was able to involve and unite citizens of all ages and backgrounds, believers and non-believers, united by the desire to say no to war and to build a world of peace .

Sitting on chairs brought from home, the participants silently presided over the square, displaying banners, flags and information panels on ongoing conflicts around the world. An atmosphere of reflection and sharing enveloped the square, while Inguì’s words resonated like a warning: “Faced with the risk of sinking into resignation, we have the duty to at least express our dissent”.

Fasting, chosen as a symbol of sacrifice and commitment to peace, represented a moment of profound personal and collective reflection. A way to stop and ask ourselves what can be done, concretely, to build a more just and peaceful world.

Inguì recalled the historic mobilization against missiles in Comiso in the 1980s, demonstrating that commitment and tenacity can lead to change. “The objective we set ourselves today is to contribute to the construction of a world of peace, starting from our community”, he stated forcefully.

The “Even Numbers Network” has already announced that it will continue to mobilize for peace, organizing new initiatives and moments of reflection. A concrete commitment that demonstrates how peace is not just a utopia, but an objective to be pursued with tenacity and with everyone’s participation.
