In Abruzzo the president of the regional council Sospiri asks for the revision of the school sizing plan, in particular the mergers of Pescara

The president of the regional council Lorenzo Sospiri asked the regional councilor for education Roberto Santangelo to review the school sizing plan which concerns in particular some institutes in Pescara.

“I have forwarded to the Education Councilor Roberto Santangelo an official request for revision of the School Sizing Plan approved by Regional Council Resolution last 3 January and which would determine the the merging of the school managements of Comprehensive Institutes 1 and 7.

A plan that is obviously not good, is not acceptable, because it would have a significant impact on two peripheral areas in which it is necessary to preserve and protect not only a single school complex, but the very presence of a fixed and stable management, because in those difficult suburbs the school, with all its human resources, represents a safeguard of legality and welcome, an indispensable sentinel. I am sure that I understand Councilor Santangelo’s sensitivity on this point and that I will be able to achieve the objective.”

Sospiri, formalizing the note addressed to the regional councilor Santangelo, continues:

“We have said since the first day, the day after its approval, that that Plan did not work, it was not correct because it fundamentally does not take into account the territorial realities on which it is going to act in an invasive manner – underlined President Sospiri -. Especially in the suburbs the school is still a lifeline for children, for young people, it is an untouchable safeguard of legality and supervision, it is the place where our children or grandchildren not only carry out their educational training, but it is also the privileged space in which everyone can carry out their human and social education, cultivating healthy relationships and solid relationships with the surrounding society, learning to discern good from evil. To carry out such an ambitious project, it is not enough to have a classroom and a digital blackboard or a desk, but you need trained teachers, trained staff and you need a present, fixed, stable management, capable of giving a face, a name and a voice to that role of sentinel of the territory. In other words, the complexes of the Comprehensive Institute 1, which run between via Einaudi-San Donato district, between via Rio Sparto and via Pietro Nenni, via Sacco, via Salara Vecchia and via delle Casette, as well as the complexes of the Institute Comprehensive 7, between via Rubicone, via Virgilio, via Colle Pineta, cannot be entrusted to ‘remote’ management, but they all need present, stable and recognizable management. I represented this need to councilor Santangelo, asking him to evaluate the possibility of a timely revision of the school sizing plan, also through a discussion with the Regional School Office, in order to revoke that merger provision and I am confident in the administrative sensitivity and training of the councilor aimed at achieving the best possible result”.
