Wild nightlife in the historic center, there’s a turning point. Or rather, there will be from next weekend. This is what transpires from the Municipality of Caserta after the last meeting of the public order and safety committee three days ago in the Prefecture. «The inter-force coordination is developing targeted interventions – assures the vice mayor and councilor for productive activities, Emiliano Casale – to protect residents, tourists and customers even if the numbers in our possession tell us that the situation is not that serious. At present the city is in fact guarded at the perimeter level by the police precisely to avoid the occurrence of dangerous situations in the area. It is certainly necessary to intervene to avoid the perpetuation of a disturbance of public peace by three or four establishments, which, according to the reports received every week from citizens, would appear not to respect the rules in force, after which we will be able to define ourselves as a city with a highly safe nightlife ».

In support of the vice mayor’s thesis there are the numbers released on the police and patrol units in the field. Every weekend, as part of the additional services to combat nightlife, coordinated by the Police Headquarters, policemen, carabinieri, financiers and local police officers are involved: the presence of at least eight patrols on the street for a total of around twenty divided in the area between 7pm and 2am. The proposal to tighten the sanctions that will be presented shortly by the commander of the local police, Colonel Alfonso Piricelli, fits into a similar context: «In order to guarantee the protection of public health and the right to rest of the citizens who live near the premises – he explains – I will propose to the mayor the issuing of an ordinance, to be applied on an experimental basis for the next six months, which provides, in case of noise pollution and disturbance of public peace, beyond the permitted hours, an administrative fine of 300 euros, and no more than 50 euros, in addition to the closure of the business for five days. In the case of a second report, the closure will continue for fifteen days until it reaches a duration of one month in the case of a third report. In this way, in my opinion, traders who respect the rules are also protected and a deterrent is created for those who operate in a non-compliant way.” Piricelli then underlines that there is a great synergistic and inter-force work that is taking place in the city because we all want to give an answer to the territory and the citizens but we also need the tools to operate in the best possible way”.

Meanwhile, new reports of nocturnal noises recorded on both Friday and Saturday are arriving from residents of via Ferrante, via Maielli and via Mazzocchi. And also the list of phone calls made to the emergency numbers between 11pm and 1am, appropriately documented, to alert the police of the ongoing inconvenience. On Saturday evening, in particular, there was also a risk of a fight in Piazza Dante. «We learned of the decisions taken a few days ago in the committee for public order and safety – points out Rosy Di Costanzo, representing the residents of the historic center – but we have to note that this, unfortunately, continues to be nobody’s. On Friday we almost had the impression that we were celebrating New Year’s Eve, so much was the confusion, the crowd, not to mention the inconvenience and the above-average decibels. Saturday didn’t go any better as evidenced by the many phone calls that residents made to 113 and to the traffic police headquarters. We continue to hope for targeted intervention by the police and we will not tire of reporting all the incidents we are forced to witness every weekend.”
