AGI – The protest demonstration against the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment concluded in Venaria Reale without incidents or particular problems for public order, which opens tomorrow morning at the Royal Palace and which will host the forum bringing together Italy and Canada until Tuesday , France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The procession, after traveling along the streets surrounding the center and occupying the Turin ring road for a few minutes, returned to the Galileo Galilei park where it started. The demonstrators have arranged to meet on Monday 29 April at 7pm in front of Palazzo Nuovo, home of the humanities faculties for a new protest action, while Ultima Generazione has announced an assembly that will be held tomorrow morning at 10am in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Venaria. “Against the G7 on the environment and energy – we read in the leaflets distributed during the morning demonstration – promoter of a fake ecological transition. Against the wars and genocide in Palestine” and “Them 7 we 99%” and again “We want to decide on the our lives and on the protection of our territories”.

The march opened with the banner “G7 governments are destroying everyone’s planet, let’s pull the plug on this system”. This was then followed by banners with the words “Eco-resistance to change course” and “We fight against your wars to defend our lands. You 7, we 99%”. At the procession there were no TAV, pro-Palestine flags and an anti-militarist banner. “The rain doesn’t stop us – the demonstrators explained from the megaphone – we are here because we do not accept an ecological transaction which is imposed from above and which is based on lies and nuclear power. We are here to defend our territories”. The procession, after passing through some streets of the town, headed towards the ring road. The demonstrators climbed over the guard rail and occupied the road towards Turin. Traffic towards the Piedmontese capital was blocked for about ten minutes.

Chiara Caratto /AGI – The bonfire lit to burn the photos of the G7 leaders

“Those who block our future – said the demonstrators from the megaphone – will find hundreds of blocks like this of people not willing to let decisions be made over their heads”. “We did very well – they said – we took back the city but we won’t stop here, we will continue, we won’t lower our heads”. The demonstrators then reached the entrance to the road that leads to the Palace, guarded by the police, and placed, in front of the police cordon, the photos of the seven leaders of the states that are part of the G7. They lit a bonfire in which they burned the blow-ups.
