Parade of national big names among the candidates in Sicily for the European elections on 8 and 9 June. In the last few hours, without any particular surprises, the prime minister and leader of the Brothers of Italy announced their entry into the fray Giorgia Melonithe general Roberto Vannacci as an independent on the League list and the secretary of Action Carlo Calenda.
They join the other national leaders who in recent days had already advertised their candidacy in the Islands constituency (Sicily and Sardinia), including the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein. Except Vannacci, all the political exponents mentioned will be leaders in the respective political forces that will present themselves in the elections.
The other big names called to lead the respective lists are: the former president of the Nebrodi Park from Messina Giuseppe Antoci for the M5S; Caterina Chinnici for Forza Italia (as the secretary Antonio Tajani will be the leader in all constituencies except the Islands); the radical Rita Bernardini for the ‘United States of Europe’ list (which refers to Emma Bonino and Matteo Renzi); Cateno De Luca for the Freedom list; the former mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando for the Green-Left Alliance. While the journalist’s ‘Peace Earth Dignity’ list is still being formalized with the collection of signatures Michele Santoro.
