A match that offers emotions especially in the first part with Vindigni’s farewell to football, the award ceremony to the historic fans and the compliments of the home team at Enna for winning the championship. The match also offers more emotions in the first half than in the second.
The first half sees Modica more decisive than the guests, in the 6th minute the rossoblu try with a shot by Biondi from outside, the ball is blocked centrally by Di Carlo, a flash that shows how much Settineri’s team entered the field with the right take. Only 4′ later, the ball goes to Azzara who alone manages to serve Famà, the attacker does not hit the ball well and misses the goal from a few steps away. On the next play, another double opportunity for Modica who tries first with Trovato, the ball deflected in the middle, Famà tries again but his shot ends up high. In the 35th minute Modica took the lead but the referee did not see that the ball crossed the goal line before returning out and therefore did not validate Cacciola’s pearl. Before the final whistle there was time for a chance with Diop who headed just wide.
In the second half there were fewer opportunities than in the first half, the two teams didn’t really hurt each other, with shots that were not very precise and not at all dangerous. The only great opportunity for the rossoblu comes with a shot from outside by Cacciola which grazes the crossbar but fails to find the way to the goal. In the end the two teams didn’t get hurt but ended the match at 0-0.
“I thank all the public and the club, we have closed the championship but now we’re going to the playoffs – declares Vindigni – I think a draw is the right final result, we tried to win it but we didn’t succeed, never mind. In the Italian Cup final I won’t be rooting for anyone, we have earned these playoffs and we will play them with whoever is there with us.”
Now Modica is preparing for the playoff phase, with the draw against Milazzo the rossoblu team will be called to face the winner between the latter and Jonica, with a possible final against Paternò. However, if the latter were to win the Italian Cup, they would miss a round.
