In Grottaminarda solidarity has good shoes – ITV Online

Today Grottaminarda was the fulcrum of a solidarity initiative: the “Pollicino Project” organized by the “Shoemakers of Italy” Association.

At the Italo shoe shop in via Vittorio Veneto in Grottaminarda, many no longer used shoes were brought by customers and others. Antonio Italo, together with fellow shoemakers from all over Campania, sanitized and regenerated them so that they can be donated, through the Red Cross, to people in need.

«I couldn’t miss this appointment with solidarity – states the Mayor of Grottaminarda, Marcantonio Spera – I find it to be an extraordinary initiative, first of all for the charitable purpose and therefore of helping others, then because there is an ecological aspect behind , linked to the regeneration and reuse of things, in this case shoes.

Finally there is the aspect of the comeback of a difficult yet important profession such as that of the shoemaker which risked becoming “extinct”. Instead, thanks to young people like Antonio Italo who, let’s not forget, a couple of years ago was awarded the “best shoemaker in Italy”, this figure resists, evolves, gives life to a useful and concrete association with initiatives like this project Tom Thumb. A big thank you to him and his very nice colleagues who arrived here today in Grottaminarda from different places in our Region”.
