Castellammare di Stabia. This morning Tonino Scala denied the rumors about his candidacy, news previewed by Positanonews, he did so from his Facebook account. “First online sites, now a newspaper – writes Scala – What did they write? That I’m running for mayor. I confess it. It is true. I’m running to be Mayor of the Sanità district, Eduardo doesn’t hold me against it.”
The tone is ironic, the fact remains that the regional secretary of the Italian Left has not yet released his reservation whether his party in Castellammare will join the coalition that supports Luigi proximity candidate for mayor or whether together with the M5S they will attempt a solo race.
Meanwhile, the hypothesized reunion of the Left Green Alliance seems impractical. Even if the respective candidates for mayor, Vozza and Elefante, are no longer in the field, the two sides do not intend to merge into a single list.
On the one hand, Green Europe coordinated by Marilena Schiano Lo Moriello have almost reached the minimum number to present a list, with the return of Elena Marini’s candidacy the minimum pink quota required by law also seems to have been reached. On the other hand, the Italian Left, which could easily provide the candidates necessary to present a complete list of twenty-four candidates, above all would allow the use of the unitary symbol, held by Tonino Scala as regional secretary. The same symbol that will be present in the European elections with some very symbolic and captivating candidacies for the left-wing electorate, those of Ilaria Salis and Mimmo Lucano.
So where does the problem arise? It is not very clear but it seems that the Greens are prejudiced by challenging the Italian Left for never having politically facilitated Bonelli’s party during the Cimmino council, by not bringing environmentalist demands to the municipal meeting.
A political issue that could be overcome with a programmatic agreement that commits elected representatives to carrying it forward the day after the elections. Remembering that two years ago Avs did not exist, a possible unitary list could obtain a flattering result, today the Greens already boast the adhesion of the former councilor Alessandro Zingone who joined the reinforcement candidates adhering to SI, among which there seems to be the former councilor Michele Starace, would offer a substantial electoral contribution.
But the usual divisions of the left which re-emerge at the most important moment for the city of Castellammare which will have to recover from a dissolution due to the Camorra, risk not seeing a left-wing list involved in the electoral campaign, for the first time since the post-war period. Given the almost obvious defections of Potere al Popolo, Rifondazione Comunista, Unione Popolare and probably also of the Socialist Party.
While the swing is underway in the center right over the candidacy of Bobbio, once the long dispute over the candidacy for mayor between Elefante and Vicinanza has been resolved, the baton passes to the dispute over the symbol of the Green Alliance and the Left, between Green Europe and the Italian Left.
