G7, protest procession in Turin, ring road blocked

AGI – The demonstration against the G7 started from the Galileo Galilei park in Corso Papa Giovanni XXIII in Venaria Reale, on the outskirts of Turin, which will start tomorrow at the Reggia hosting the forum that brings together Italy, Canada and France until Tuesday , Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. “Against the G7 on the environment and energy – we read on the flyer distributed at the garrison – promoter of a fake ecological transition. Against the wars and genocide in Palestine” and “The 7 of us 99%” and again “We want to decide on our lives and on the protection of our territories”.

The procession is opened by the banner “The G7 governments are destroying everyone’s planet, let’s pull the plug on this system”. This is followed by banners with the words “Ecoresistance to change course” and “We fight against your wars to defend our lands. You 7, we 99%”. At the procession there are no TAV, pro-Palestine flags and an anti-militarist banner. In an ‘armoured’ Venaria, with blocks that prevent the demonstrators from approaching the Palace and under a swinging support, the procession will travel along the streets surrounding the centre. “The rain doesn’t stop us – the demonstrators explained from the megaphone – we are here because we do not accept an ecological transaction which is imposed from above and which is based on lies and nuclear power. We are here to defend our territories”. The procession, after passing through some streets of the town, headed towards the ring road. The demonstrators climbed over the guard rail and occupied the road towards Turin. Traffic towards the Piedmontese capital was blocked for about ten minutes.

“Those who block our future – said the demonstrators from the megaphone – will find hundreds of blocks like this of people not willing to let decisions be made over their heads”. “We did very well – they said – we took back the city but we won’t stop here, we will continue, we won’t lower our heads”. The demonstrators reached the entrance to the road that leads to the Palace, guarded by the police, and placed, in front of the police cordon, the photos of the seven leaders of the states that are part of the G7. They then lit a bonfire in which they burned the blow-ups.
