PORDENONE – The real acts of vandalism, the fights organized to pass the time, the episodes in which young people were threatening: all this happens outside, on the streets. But the emergency that is affecting the Torre neighborhood began at school. The alarm signals come from the corridors of the “Lozer” middle schools, which are named after the main square of the village north of Pordenone. And the temperature is measured first the head teacher of the comprehensive institute, Vladimiro Giacomello. He himself, then, is at the forefront of the measures. Yes why the first suspensions took place within the school. “Nothing serious, some bathrooms damaged,” the institute said. But we wanted to give a signal.

THE CLIMATE

There “Tower gang” (this is how “terrible” kids are called among their peers in the neighborhood) is therefore born at school. There, between the benches and Lozer’s garden, there are the first intimidations, the first small acts of vandalism that cost some kids “educational” suspension from lessons for a few days. «And we are ready to implement other actions that we define as educational – explains the school director, Vladimiro Giacomello -. We will gladly participate in the summit on Monday, we are in constant contact with the local police and the municipality’s social services. The sanctions that we have decided to assign to some children are aimed precisely at safeguarding everyone’s right to education. There is a need for a network with multiple actors to stem this situation». Within Lozer, therefore, those conditions germinate that later manifest themselves outside the school. «Here we talk about small incidents that mostly occurred in the bathrooms – explains the manager – while outside parents also report organized fights. And probably all this happens out of boredom: they make appointments and the fight starts».

THE CONTOURS

By digging but at the same time protecting the privacy of the minors who attend the local school, we then discover how the main protagonists of the episodes of violence that disturb families are not the children of marginalized families. And not even representatives of what is often called the “second generation”. No, They are perhaps bored kids but true Pordenone people. “Indeed, I must say that some children of immigrants have actively collaborated with the school and tried to maintain a calmer climate”, specifies once again the head teacher of “Lozer”. Tomorrow the departure of the “mission” of the Municipality, with the councilor and deputy mayor Alberto Parigi who will meet the school, the local police of the capital and the street educators. The aim is to bring tranquility back to Torre. «The street educators were sent right to the Piazza Lozer area and heard the testimonies of people who experience the phenomenon up close. They listened to those who have an up-to-date pulse on the situation. Tomorrow we will also meet the school management of the Torre middle school, while the shopkeepers in the area have already been interviewed. We are doing everything we can but we cannot always blame everything on the police or on the municipal administration. Families, above all, must take charge of the problem: let them do their part”, reiterated Deputy Mayor Parigi.
