Cerignola awaits Giugliano again, but the start of the playoffs could be postponed

Only the date remains to be defined. Because what is involved is Taranto’s appeal to the Guarantee Board, against the penalty imposed on him by the Federal Court and confirmed by the Court of Appeal, the outcome of which could change the situation at the top levels. But, whatever happens, nothing will change for the Audace Cerignola: Raffaele’s team will face Giugliano and will do so at home with the possibility of going through to the next round even if only by drawing. An unthinkable privilege until two weeks ago, which the Ofantino club earned with the decisive sprint in the last three matches. The easy success in the derby against Francavilla kept alive the hope of getting back into the race, which then became a certainty after the success in the derby against Foggia.

The final act with Giugliano, thanks also to the defeats of Crotone and Latina, further sweetened the regular season finale of the yellow and blues, who now start with the underdogs, also in light of the clear 3-0 with which they crashed yesterday the Campania team in the afternoon.

But as mentioned, we still have to understand what will happen to Taranto. A possible acceptance of the appeal, even partial, would project the Ionian team into third position, with the possibility of skipping the group playoff phase and directly accessing the national phase. Whatever happens, Cerignola’s first-round opponent will remain the same, but something could change – in the event of qualification – in the second round, when the fourth-placed team comes into play, as well as in the first-round pairing between the fifth-placed team (which currently it would be Taranto) and the tenth.

News is expected in the early days of next week. The start of the playoffs is scheduled for Saturday 4 May. It cannot therefore be ruled out that the start may be postponed this year too.

The aforementioned dynamics will not concern Foggia at all. Cudini’s team ended its season sadly yesterday with the sixteenth defeat of the season. A result that would have generated many other implications only if Catania had lost at home to Benevento. Cerignola’s hat-trick in the first half hour had already made a possible success for the Satanels fruitless, as they gradually let go until Scarsella’s goal in the final minutes, which gave Monterosi the chance to play for their place in Serie C in the playout against Potenza. The other salvation playoff will see Monopoli and Virtus Francavilla face each other.
