Days pass, new elements emerge and the hypothesis of censorship by Rai against the new champion of the left Antonio Scurati is increasingly dismantled. As reported in recent days by the Giornale, on 19 April (the day before the now well-known episode of «Che Sara») the editorial staff of the program sent an email to the deputy director of the Rai Insights department Giovanni Alibrandi, inserting the name among the guests of the episode by Antonio Scurati with the wording «tg» (Free title). The email was sent at 5.42pm while a minute earlier another email was sent with the press release of the episode (which will be sent to journalists at 7.09pm) in which Scurati’s name appeared. These two communications alone would be sufficient to explain how a censorship did not occur but the key proof can already be found on the morning of April 19th. As told by Nicola Porro’s website «Rai on 19 April at 10.35 had also taken care of purchasing return train tickets (first class, obviously) and a night at the River Chateau hotel in Rome». You’ve never seen a guest who shouldn’t be on air be included in the lineup, be advertised in the newspapers and even receive train tickets and hotel reservations. The Rai management therefore did not censor Scurati but only asked to do so free of charge «in exchange for advertising the TV series based on the author’s novels soon to be broadcast on Sky. A proposal that the Rai leaders consider accepted after having received confirmation of the lineup from the program’s editorial team on the evening of April 19th.”

That it was not censorship is starting to become evident even to those who ideologically certainly cannot be accused of having positions hostile to Scurati, such as Marco Travaglio who yesterday signed an editorial entitled “Non-censorship” in “Il Fatto giorno”. Travaglio writes: «I have spoken several times about censorship regarding Antonio Scurati’s failure to participate on Saturday 20th in Chesarà… (Rai3). I based myself on the only version available: Serena Bortone’s, which I had no reason to doubt.” “But now, with all the cards on the table, we can calmly say that it wasn’t censorship.” Then he concludes: «But the Rai managers never said that he shouldn’t read his monologue». Yet Travaglio’s stance seems to betray an annoyance at the fact that there is someone who has managed to become more of a victim than him. Along the same lines, Roberto Saviano (bottom) who, after having taken issue with the “alleged censorship” of Scurati, complained about not having received the same solidarity in the past: “When a year ago they censored me from Insider by canceling the my broadcast, how many were silent? Thinking oh well it’s Saviano’s problem, it’s useless to scream about the compromise of democracy because it’s his problem, perhaps even enjoying the fact of having one less competitor. This is how it works in these worlds.” On the left they have realized that victimhood pays and shouting against (alleged) censorship can become an extraordinary political weapon. On the other hand, just enter any bookshop and see how books on anti-fascism and against the Meloni government are flocking and Antonio Scurati’s book «Fascism and populism» is also back in plain sight. Mussolini today” with the emblematic launch of “the manifesto for a new anti-fascism”.

Judging by the visibility obtained in recent days by Scurati between conferences, guest appearances, events, articles and publications, victimhood represents the new card of a left that is increasingly in trouble, especially in the electoral campaign.
