Crotone – A real triumph of people, warmth and applause welcomed the presentation of the orchestra’s first recording work last night at the Pythagoras Museum Adiemus Ensemblemade up of 13 masters all from the province of Crotone.

The evening which began with a medley of Rossini’s music, concluded with the well-known William Tell symphony, was conducted by the CrotoneOk journalist, Gianfranco Turino, who involved the masters of the Adiemus in the story of their orchestra and the so-called Act Iname of the group’s first record product.

The maestro Damiano Morisemusical director, together with the artistic director Joseph Iovine and to the president of the musical and cultural association Adiemus, Francesco Dragohave told this adventure from the beginning.

“The idea was born one evening in September while we were drinking a beer – he said Joseph Iovine – we have only known each other for five years and it seems that, instead, we have been dating for a lifetime. Because this group found itself around a project but also around our passion which turned into friendship.”

Maestro Morise recounted the orchestra’s first steps. “We did the first concert in Umbriatico on 26 December 2019, there were minus two degrees and twenty people in the audience. Usually in Crotone when something new is born they immediately snub it: “But what do these guys think they’re doing?”. Time is now proving that these guys really know how to do something. Someone has always wondered if it was possible to bring together and unite the entire province of Crotone. We did it! Without interest, without money, done just for the pleasure of it. Many of us have chosen to stay in Crotone and invest our future in Crotone. So why not start from this? There is little and it is also poorly managed, so we asked ourselves why not change things? Maybe in fifteen years something will change in Crotone, but someone will have to start.”

In 2021, Adiemus also became an association, led by Francesco Drago. The idea of establishing an association was born from the desire to go beyond concert activity and to spread culture through music and to support Calabrian talents. “The idea – the president tells us – is to support the area educationally by promoting masterclasses and seminars, and thus disseminate the culture of music or through music”.

The thought that gave rise to Adiemus is now clearer than ever. The orchestra has consolidated itself over the years thanks to numerous concerts in national and international theatres. The most famous was certainly the concert in Vienna, in November 2023, when Adiemus was called to participate in the “MusikReisenFaszination” festival which took place in the famous Musikverein theater in Vienna (where the New Year’s concert is performed).

The evening flew by in a pleasant way, with stories, anecdotes, a few jokes and lots of applause. In closing, the maestros presented their CD “Act I” which collects a series of symphonies (Rossini, Carmen, Bizet and Dvorak) and a tribute to Ennio Morricone with seven songs by the well-known composer.

In closing, the Adiemus performed two pieces, arranged for the musicae formation by maestro Morise, like all the pieces performed by the orchestra: Vltava (the second of the six pieces which describes the path of the river of the same name that crosses Bohemia) and Sinfonia “From the New World” the ninth and final symphony by composer Dvorak.
